Snippets

I'm calling this page Snippets, though its real name is "Snips and Snails and Puppy-Dog Tails, but spelled Tales" — (my son's creative mind at work, not mine). All those words wouldn't fit on the fortune cookie header though, so Snippets it is.

I envision this page will be "bloggy" in nature, but I've never blogged before, so it might not look like a blog to you. I plan to share bits of news, updates, and thoughts on anything and everything… the angst of sending a son off to college; the excitement of having a book published… But what do they say about the best laid plans? Perhaps instead I'll be posting favorite fortune-cookie fortunes, the newest addition to my push-puppet collection, photos of my dog... stay tuned…

People, {and animals}, have started to read the galleys! Check out this from my pal Sleepy Bear: http://sleepybearwrites.blogspot.com/

a home for the galley

January 18, 2012

I’ve found a home for the galley ~ hurray. It’s going to Dorine White for review. If you’re a writer, check out Dorine’s site: http://dorinewhite.blogspot.com/. She has a terrific blog with lots of writing tips. Today’s post was about titles and as I’m still searching for the title of Cinderella Smith #3 it inspired me to keep at it ~ plus, I’m snowed in. Can’t think of a better way to spend my day than a brainstorming session!

what's a galley copy to do?

January 16, 2012

I’m trying to find a home for my last galley copy of The More the Merrier. I had planned to send it to a darling website called RatChat Reviews, but the dear ratties are taking a break at the moment. My next thought was to share it with the wonderful woman in the children’s department of my local Barnes and Noble. She had Cinderella Smith on her “staff recommendations” shelf and introduced my book to loads of kids. That Barnes and Noble has closed up though and she’s not moving on with them to a new location.  My favorite independent booksellers, Mockingbird Books and Third Place Books both have it. So do StorySnoops, MadiganReads and SleepyBear, three of my favorite blogs. Hmmm…what's a galley copy to do?

Cinderella Smith ~ Explosions!

January 12, 2012

I spent a wonderful morning with second graders at Bertschi elementary school. We discussed Cinderella Smith’s path to publication and where The More the Merrier can be found along the same path, (galley copy stage). We also talked about book three, now known as CS 3, because we still don’t have a title. ACK! The working title, Thank you Very Much, was rejected, as was In Cahoots, What in the World, Fine and Dandy and many others.

Trying to help, the kids shared their own ideas for possible titles. My favorite was: Cinderella Smith ~ Explosions! And according to the class, I don’t even need to add an explosion to the story in order to make the title work ~ love it!

Happy New Year!

January 11, 2012

Yesterday a friend and I were discussing how late in the year one can wish someone a happy new year before it’s just too weird. We decided through mid-January was acceptable, so before the year progresses any further, Happy New Year! I hope yours is Magnificent! {See previous blog if this statement strikes you as odd.}
